Bifocal Contact Lenses

It is an inevitable fact of life that by the mid-forties, most people have lost their ability to focus at near. This makes it necessary to purchase reading or bifocal glasses. But there are other options for such patients, including bifocal contact lenses. While the soft varieties can get the job done, the best bifocal contact lens designs are rigid gas permeable.

Dr. Ward fits not only standard rigid gas permeable bifocal designs, but also fits Scleral as well as Z-Wave bifocal designs. Special training and experience is required to fit such lenses successfully. Scleral lenses offer the superior vision of a gas permeable design, but as they are very large, they are much more comfortable and stable than standard gas permeable designs. Z-Wave bifocal contact lenses are custom designed from a patient's "corneal fingerprint". In the fitting of such lenses, a special video camera (topographer) is used, in conjunction with sophisticated software to digitally map a patient's cornea. The data generated from this process is then used to create a contact lens that mirrors the actual shape of the eye. The result is an incredibly stable lens, essential for a successful bifocal fit. Patients experience simultaneous distance and near vision without reading glasses, often achieving 20/20 vision at both distance and near!

Ask Dr. Ward if you're a candidate, you'll return to glasses-free living again!
